This week, we are delighted to launch the Nursery World Outdoor Challenge, giving nurseries and schools the chance to win 2,500 of advice and resources to help them redevelop their outside areas. Outdoor provision is recognised as being of the utmost importance for young children's learning and well-being. But too many settings are struggling with inadequate space and facilities that leave them unable to make outdoor play an integrated and essential part of the Foundation Stage curriculum.

Outdoor provision is recognised as being of the utmost importance for young children's learning and well-being. But too many settings are struggling with inadequate space and facilities that leave them unable to make outdoor play an integrated and essential part of the Foundation Stage curriculum.

Redeveloping your outdoor space is not a question of adding a few bits of equipment for an instant makeover. It is a lengthy process of deliberation and consultation from which truly inspirational provision can emerge. As part of our challenge, Julie Mountain of Learning Through Landscapes explains the first steps a setting should take along the way.

The outdoors will be a huge focus for early years providers over the next year or so. Nursery World will soon be running a series of features by Learning Through Landscapes looking at various aspects of improving your provision.

So fill in your entry form and take the Outdoor Challenge that could change your setting for the better.
