Experts advise ministers on strategy

The DfES has announced the names of the members that will form its new stakeholder group for early years and childcare. The Sure Start, Extended Schools and Childcare Stakeholder Group, chaired by Dame Julie Mellor (News, 6 April), will advise ministers on the implementation of the Government's ten-year childcare strategy and wider early years and childcare policies. Its first meeting was held on 22 June and meetings will take place every two months.

Members consist of representatives from local authorities, health, the private and voluntary sector and frontline staff. They include Anne Longfield, chief executive, 4Children; Bernadette Duffy, Thomas Coram Children's Centre; Lisa Harker, Trustee of Daycare Trust; Nathan Archer, Children's House Consultancy, NDNA; Sally Threlfall, head of early years, Leeds City Council; and Duncan Fisher, chief executive, Fathers Direct.
