The imminent reshaping of the childcare workforce depends much on the work of one woman. Forward thinking is a priority for the chief executive of the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) - particularly when it comes to life 'on the road'. She cheerfully admits that on checking into each new hotel room she always makes sure that the hairdryer, kettle and television are working before she unpacks her suitcase.

This lifestyle is destined to continue at least until next spring, when the CWDC hopes to have appointed some 30 regional representatives.
