With so few books available specifically about childminding, this volume is to be welcomed.

It is designed to be a course book for the CACHE Certificate in Childminding Practice, and is approved by the National Childminding Association as such. However, it is also of use to those childminders who do not plan to take the full award.

Some childminders may be put off by the considerable amount of text, although the book does contain illustrations, charts and diagrams. But I would recommend that they persevere, as the context is directly relevant to today's childminding practice. The layout allows it to be used for quick reference about such matters as development, nutrition or relevant legislation. It also includes thought- provoking case studies and questions to encourage the reader to think about their own knowledge and skills.
