Special Needs & Early Years: a practitioner's guide

by Kate Wall (Paul Chapman, 16.99, 020 7374 0645)

Reviewed by Collette Drifte, special needs consultant I found this book useful and thorough, containing some very interesting case studies, even though it is occasionally heavy going and some of the illustrative tables are rather difficult to interpret.

It has the usual format that most books on this subject seem to follow these days, with chapters covering partnership with parents, working with outside agencies, observation, assessment and planning IEPs, and so on.

Each chapter concludes with a useful summary that highlights the main points and helps the reader to think back quickly on what has just been covered. This can work in reverse by scanning the conclusion first, to see whether the chapter contains the points that you want to read about.
