Funding fatigue

In response to 'Anger over council terms' (News, 22 June), I should like to add my thoughts, which include 'frustration' and 'fatigue'. Hertfordshire, our local authority, currently passes on 8 per 2.5 hour funded session. I agree with the Kent providers that the level of nursery education grant is inadequate and, effectively, we as a private nursery are making up the shortfall of government funding. Over the past two years, I have taken the matter up with the NDNA, the local authority and our MP but with little effect. The result of the ongoing miserly funding is low wages for all the dedicated personnel who continue to give of their best in the private and voluntary sectors, and lower standards than our children deserve.

Perhaps since Nursery World has featured the situation, others who feel similarly will band together to be heard.
