Getting to grips

One ICT priority for this term will be to introduce the computer and encourage children to become confident and proficient in using the mouse. Here are two pieces of software that will go a long way towards encouraging mouse control.

Here are two pieces of software that will go a long way towards encouraging mouse control.

The CD-Rom 'Reader Rabbit Toddler' is specifically designed for children from 18 months to three years old and has a 'clickless game play' format - it is not necessary to click the mouse to play any of the games, a simple swipe mouse movement is sufficient. It is an excellent introduction to mouse control and children enjoy being able to navigate around games independently.

There are six enjoyable games to play, all with attractive colours, music and sound effects. These focus on counting and popping bubbles, shapes and colours, baby animals (matching and memory skills), colouring, nursery rhymes and the alphabet. There are opportunities to print out lots of activities and songs and personalised certificates to support children's learning. It has lovely graphics and is really easy to find your way around.
