Go and be gone

Resist that urge to itch - it's time to think again about head lice. Treating children for head lice infestation usually includes treating the adults who care for them too, and nannies are no exception. A new video, 'Head Lice A Go Go', from the health charity Community Hygiene Concern shows how to detect and get rid of the bugs from all kinds of heads. At Pounds 9.95 inc p&p, the video costs the same as a bottle of one of the many over-the-counter treatments to which the bugs often become immune and which contain pesticides that worry health experts and parents alike. A good resource, perhaps, to pass around your nanny circle or share with the local primary school. Meanwhile Community Hygiene Concern - which says it 'dares to deal with the more taboo areas of family health' - has set up a confidential helpline for advice about threadworms. These even more unmentionable bugs affect at least one in four children before they leave primary school. For help with threadworms, ring 020 7387 1990 between 10am and 2pm weekdays. For the head lice video or advice contact CHC at 160 Inderwick Road, London N8 9JT, tel 020 8341 7167 (or see the FAQs on its aptly-named website www.nits.net).
