Adult:child ratio 1:6

Resources

Postcards, photographs, an exotic shell.

Preparation

* Ask parents and carers to provide photographs of holidays, day trips or holiday times at home and any other information about their child's holidays.

* Ask staff to bring in holiday snaps and postcards.

* Plan for two adults to support this activity so that one can record children's responses.

Activity content

* Sit with the children in a comfortable area and show them a postcard - explain that your friend sent it to you. Look at the picture on the front and talk about where your friend is, what they might be doing there and why they went there. Read aloud its message. Remember that this introduction is only a starting point for discussions and should not dominate the session or reinforce any stereotypes that may alienate individuals from the discussions.
