The importance of safeguarding children's mental health will be highlighted with the launch of a support network for Sure Start workers next month. The charity Young Minds is setting up the Sure Start Network to support early years professionals and health workers who are likely to come across mental health problems in children and young people as part of their work.

The charity Young Minds is setting up the Sure Start Network to support early years professionals and health workers who are likely to come across mental health problems in children and young people as part of their work.

The Network, which will have its first meeting in London on 26 September, will provide a forum for speakers from other relevant organisations, briefings, discussions and presentations around aspects of child mental health. It aims to help professionals who do not have relevant training or access to information on the mental health of children.

The Network will be led by representatives from Young Minds and has the backing of the Sure Start Unit. Its format is based on Young Minds' Youth Offending Team Network, which has been successfully operating since autumn 1999.
