Halloween fails to chime with parents

More than half of the parents polled for an online survey said they would not be letting their children go out trick-or-treating this Halloween.

Worries over road safety, bullying and increased violence and knifecrime were the main reasons parents gave for not wanting children totake part in last Friday's door-to-door ritual.

The survey by the Children's Safety Education Foundation (CSEF) asked460 parents with children under the age of 16 for their views onHalloween.

Parents were asked whether their child would be supervised whiletrick-or-treating and who they would be allowed to visit.

The response showed that 54 per cent of parents would not allow theirchildren to go out at all, and of those that would, 72 per cent saidthey would only allow their children to visit friends and neighboursthey knew well.
