Explore colour, texture, shape, form and space in two and three dimensions To achieve this learning outcome, children must have regular opportunities to develop the use of their senses by experimenting with and exploring a wide selection of art materials.

Practitioners should:

* provide experiences that stimulate interest in textures and colours;

* avoid focusing on the end-product of creative activities;

* offer a staple diet of creative water and sand play and access to a daily malleable material and easels for free painting;

* present sufficient resources as attractively as possible;

* keep a relaxed attitude so that children can make as much mess as they like.
