Hands off fire

I would like to register my disappointment with the good practice outdoors feature 'Playing with fire' (21 August), enabling children to learn about fire. When I brought the article to the attention of our local Fire Safety officer, she was speechless and I am fuming at the thought of young children being encouraged to use barbeques and set fire to model houses.

Vast amounts of money are being spent on teaching children to keep well away from fire, and surely they should not be anywhere near a barbeque.
