Local Sure Start services have moved into the Maxilla Children's Centrein North Kensington, increasing the provision for children andfamilies.
The centre now offers a range of health services and an out-of-schoolclub. The 52-place Maxilla Nursery School, which has been operating formore than 30 years, is also housed in the centre.
Daycare for under-threes is provided at the nearby Latymer FamilyCentre.
Laura Colletti, acting head of Maxilla Children's Centre, said, 'Maxillawill now offer health promotion services including antenatal clinics,health visitor clinics, drop-in sessions for childminders and trainingwith a speech therapist, adult literacy classes and a breastfeedingclinic.'
At last Friday's fun day a variety of entertainment was on offer,including clowns, face painting and a steel band. The centre wasofficially opened by Councillor Andrew Dalton, the Mayor of Kensingtonand Chelsea, and Councillor Shireen Ritchie, cabinet member for Familyand Children's Services, who happens to be film director Guy Ritchie'smother.
