Health visitors and midwives join forces

(Photograph) - Health visitors and midwives joined forces with the Welsh Assembly last week in a drive to protect babies from passive smoking - with a stark warning that up to half the children in the UK could be exposed to it. The hard-hitting campaign to persuade adults of the harm they can cause babies if they smoke, such as putting them at risk of asthma and chest infections, follows the ban on smoking imposed on childminders in Wales earlier this year. But in England, the national standards for under-eights daycare still allow childminders to smoke while looking after children.
