The eight-page booklet, Has someone died - Helping children, has been co-produced with the Co-operative Insurance Society and is based on information provided by thousands of children. It outlines how children react when someone close to them dies, and suggests ways for carers and parents to help them.
The booklet says, 'Showing a child that you care and are interested in them is always helpful. Talking about the person who has died will often help. Looking at photographs, drawing and painting are all ways in which children can express themselves.'
Cruse executive director Carole Easton said, 'Helping a bereaved child is a difficult task. Carers need to know advice is available if they want it.' The booklet is available free from Cruse on 0870 167 1677 or can be accessed on its website at www.crusebereavementcare.org.uk
