'Help schools to combat bullying'

Bullying in schools could be curbed by Government measures, says ChildLine. The charity put forward recommendations for the Government to help prevent bullying in schools at its conference in London last week, chaired by Cherie Booth QC (pictured, right, with ChildLine chair Esther Rantzen OBE).

The charity put forward recommendations for the Government to help prevent bullying in schools at its conference in London last week, chaired by Cherie Booth QC (pictured, right, with ChildLine chair Esther Rantzen OBE).

It recommended listening to what children say about bullying, and involving them in developing policies and strategies to tackle it; giving greater priority and adequate funding for Personal, Social and Health Education lessons in schools, which stress the importance of respect and empathy for others and moral responsibility; providing funding for resources and training for teachers to support them in tackling bullying; and recognising the importance of children and young people having good communication skills.
