We work from home on planning and getting resources together and spend a large amount of time filling out mountains of paperwork. Is this hard work worth it, when most practitioners only receive the minimum wage?
I don't blame my manager for the low wage. She can only pay us based on money from Government funding. Any extra money from fees (by non-funded children) goes on rent, insurance, resources and so on.
I think the Government could produce a better level of funding that would mean owners could afford to pay staff a more deserved wage. This would boost morale among staff, make workers want to stay in childcare longer and encourage people to work more efficiently. It would also lead people to train to higher levels in childcare and help us to afford a decent home life without getting second jobs - which I know a lot of pre-school workers have to do to afford bills.
