Help with CRB check

We are a charity in Glasgow providing childcare for 125 children. Before we offer them employment, we ask potential staff to supply us with a full Criminal Records Bureau disclosure, which they pay for. We have been debating for some time if we should ask for these to be updated on a regular basis. We are currently thinking about every two years.

We have been debating for some time if we should ask for these to be updated on a regular basis. We are currently thinking about every two years.

Given that we would be asking our staff to pay for this, I wrote to the Inland Revenue asking if this payment could be offset against an individual's PAYE.

I have now had a response from the Inland Revenue, which states that they are not willing to treat the first payment as tax deductible but are willing to allow each subsequent renewal as tax deductible. This should save an employee 22 per cent of any renewal - a small saving but a saving.
