The Government has had to pay the company running the Criminal Records Bureau more than 9m because it changed the terms of its contract. The figures were revealed in a written answer to Paul Burstow, Liberal Democrat MP for Sutton and Cheam. Mr Burstow was told the Home Office's decision to implement a paper-based application route for disclosure checks of criminal records by the CRB, rather than by telephone, had cost the Government Pounds 2,106,667, which was paid to Capita for the changes. A further 7.1m was spent by the CRB in respect of its additional operating costs.
