Helping councils support centres

By Liz Railton CBE, programme director, Together for Children Together for Children (TfC) has been operating since October 2006, so I am something of a late arrival as programme director, starting in January this year. The Department for Education and Skills has contracted TfC to support local authorities in the huge task of delivering 2,500 children's centres by March 2008.

The Department for Education and Skills has contracted TfC to support local authorities in the huge task of delivering 2,500 children's centres by March 2008.

I have come from being a local authority Director of Children's Services, so I know what an enormous challenge they face. I also know that if children's centres live up to the vision that is driving the programme, they will make a significant contribution to improving outcomes for children. The centres really are 'Every Child Matters: change for children'
