High costs of scheme that benefits no one

I am angry that changes to the Childcare Approval Scheme (Professional Nanny, 22 March) will result in us being charged more for a system that has already failed. But I am relieved that it is being taken over by Ofsted. I applied to the scheme in January after my boss said she would only give me a pay rise if she could get childcare vouchers. I begrudgingly agreed, although I felt that my previous CRB clearance was proof enough that I am suitable to work with children, not to mention my NVQ3 qualification and other courses I have completed.

I phoned to apply but spoke to a very unhelpful man, so I decided to apply by post. Four weeks later I was asked to send the 99 by cheque because they could not accept my card. It was then four more weeks before I received a rude phone call and letter asking for payment again. They had lost my cheque, costing me 20 to stop it.
