More parents are now working from home, bringing another change to the traditional nanny job among the many highlighted in January's Professional Nanny/Nannytax survey of pay and trends.

For a nanny accustomed to working in a sole-charge position, some tricky issues arise when faced with working in such close proximity to their employer and the parent of the children in their charge. Will they interfere? How can the children be kept from running in to where mum or dad is working? Will noise be a problem?

When nanny Jenny Stevens from Wiltshire began a part-time position where the mother ran her own business from home, she had some initial concerns about being watched and listened to. But these worries were short-lived; her employer, she says, tends to spend most of her time in the study and keeps her visits to a minimum.
