In brief...

Children from 580 schools across the UK will have the opportunity to engage in a range of out-of-school activities including sports coaching, robot wars, carnival history, Bengali literacy and sailing, with the help of grants from the New Opportunities Fund. Among the recipients, Stoke on Trent local education authority will be using its 543,000 to fund activities covering 63 schools in the area, including a Robot Wars young engineers club. Children in the Bangladeshi community in Sandwell, West Midlands, will benefit from a 50,000 award to provide homework clubs for those without sufficient space or privacy to complete their work at home.
