Draft Department of Health guidance has been published to help protect children who have illnesses induced or fabricated by their parents or carers. Health minister Jacqui Smith said, 'We need services which are able to identify cases and which will focus on securing the best possible outcomes for children. The guidance highlights the shared responsibility of services, professionals and the wider community for safeguarding children in whom illness is fabricated or induced by their carers.'
