In brief...Educational work in museums

Educational work in museums and galleries in England received a 1m boost last week from the Government. Schools minister Catherine Ashton said, 'There is nothing like a child being able to see or touch a piece of Roman mosaic to help them understand history and give them a real taste for learning. I want to open up new avenues of "learning through culture".' Meanwhile, culture secretary Tessa Jowell announced that there is now free admission to ten of the country's prime collections, including the Imperial War Museum in London, the Royal Armouries at Leeds, and Manchester's Museum of Science and Industry.
