National Childcare Month is now officially under way, and June is packed with activities and events to celebrate the great work done by people in this sector. With many of the main organisations - the National Day Nurseries Association, the Pre-school Learning Alliance, Kids' Clubs Network and the National Childminding Association - joining up with Daycare Trust to hold special weeks for their type of childcare during the month, there is a real buzz around. Nursery World will be reporting on what's happening (see News, page 5, and In My View, page 34 this week) and is particularly involved in two events. In next week's issue, you can see the winners of our children's art competition. We received thousands of entries from toddlers to teens depicting their carer and saying what makes them so special. The presentation is being made by Tessa Jowell, secretary of state for culture, media and sport, at the Royal Academy in London next Wednesday.
