Including diabetics

I would like to thank all of the staff at Sir James Knotts Nursery School, Tyne and Wear. My daughter, Jude, is Type 1 diabetic, which means she needs insulin injections and her blood sugar levels taken when she shows any signs or symptoms of hypoglycaemia or hyperglycaemia. Jude's levels have always been erratic and the symptoms she shows are slight, so are very hard to detect.

The staff at the nursery have been wonderful. As well as all the fun and learning opportunities they offered Jude, they also tended to her individual health needs. They learned about the signs and symptoms, and what Jude could and, more importantly, could not eat. They were also confident in taking her blood sugar level and treating her condition with ease when needed. As a nursery nurse myself, I know that this must have been very daunting. The staff were always so positive, and it was easy to put my trust in them.
