Joys of spring

'Sow, grow and eat' (below) is the name of a scheme at the Old School House Day Nursery in Sancton, East Riding of Yorkshire, where children grow vegetables for their own 'five a day' menus, including potatoes, pumpkins, runner beans, peas, carrots and tomatoes.

Little acorns (above) were sprouting at Granby House Nursery, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, after a BBC-sponsored hunt for fallen acorns from the famous oaks of Sherwood Forest. The children have been writing to the Rangers of Sherwood Forest for growing advice.
