Just under one-third of employers now offer childcare

Just under one-third of employers now offer childcare, as companies strive to retain staff by offering more flexible working and benefits, according to a new report. The annual survey of 550 UK companies, with nearly 56,000 job holders, by research company Computer Economics found that the number of firms offering help with childcare rose from 19 per cent in 2004 to 29 per cent in 2005. Companies were asked whether they funded or provided childcare for their staff, and 14 per cent said they paid towards childcare or offered a childcare voucher scheme. The Survey of Employee Benefits and Additional Payments 2006 is available for 550 at www.celre.co.uk
