(Photograph) - Children in their first year at Kirkhill primary school in Aberdeen practise literacy skills in a session intended to raise standards and boost the attainment of disadvantaged pupils. Last month Aberdeen City Council won the prize for the local authority which had done most to close the gap between disadvantaged pupils and others, in the Scottish Executive's Education awards.
