New buildings housing seven children's centres are to be constructed in areas where provision is limited, and 23 centres will be developed in existing community centres, local Sure Start projects and maintained nursery schools.
A spokesperson from the council's early years and childcare team said that instead of creating new provision in every area, it wants to use services that 'already have good practice in place, and are being used by the local community'.
Children's centre conferences were held in each district of Lancashire during September 2003 and January 2004 to involve key partners and the local community in the development of childcare strategies for each area.
