The first students to complete the new NVQ4 in early years care and education admit it was a hard won battle - but their comments have led to changes that will make life easier for future students.

Awarding bodies have revised course guidelines which should lead to a more straightforward study experience for future students. Childcarers with the Northern Ireland Pre-School Playgroup Association (NIPPA) were the first to enrol for the course under a NIPPA pilot project.

Their NVQ4 co-ordinator Marion Blaney praises their dedication. 'They really did commit themselves to the task and achieved a lot, while holding down stressful jobs at the same time.'
