Classroom equipment
Whenever one thinks of equipment for left-handers, scissors spring to mind, but it's just as important to cover the other basics as well to ensure that left-handed children do not suffer unnecessary difficulties with their work.
Philip and Tacey's left-handed rulers are scaled from right to left to make it easier to draw lines of the correct length with the left hand without obscuring the scale while it is being done. The ruler comes in transparent plastic and is 300mm long, graduated in centimetres and millimetres on one bevel and sixteenths on the other. A pack of ten is priced 4.05. The company also stocks a Left Twin Hole Sharpener that is specifically designed for left-handed users. Pencil sharpeners for left-handers need to have reversed blades so that the pencil can be turned anti-clockwise and the shavings fall away into the bin and not back into the child's lap. This sharpener has a square shape, double holes and comes with two spare blades, priced 1.85.
