Early years practice in Morocco was the focus earlier this year when I accompanied a group of six childcare students from Westminster Adult Education Service, London, on a cultural visit.

We spent a week visiting a state school, a private nursery and a traditional Koranic school in Agadir. The three settings were very different and we got a good insight into the country's early years and education system.

Three of the students come from Morocco. Through discussions about our own experiences of early education during classes we formulated the idea for the trip, which we funded ourselves.

We started by researching the area on the internet. Then we contacted 15 settings by a letter translated by one of the students. We got two positive replies and arranged a visit to a third setting once we were in Morocco.
