Let's try ID cards

I agree that new nursery staff should not start work until they have been checked. But I think Ofsted needs to look at the length of time it takes to clear people. Perhaps it could offer a service where people wanting to work with children can get themselves cleared before they start looking for a job in a day nursery. Anyone working with children should be on a register and have registration ID cards, as all NHS staff do. That way, a new employer and Ofsted can check easily if a person has been cleared by the Criminal Records Bureau. I had to wait four months to finally be cleared as a deputy manager of a nursery. Fortunately I was allowed to work before my clearance came through but, as a single mother, what would I have done for money while I was waiting to be cleared if I was not working?

We have staff at our nursery waiting to be cleared who cannot be left unsupervised. This makes our job twice as difficult - it's hard enough watching 24 children without having to watch uncleared staff too.
