Letters: Networking on play

I agree with Linda Doyle's comments, 'Forget the competition - let's work together, not against each other' (Letters, 13 September).

I work for a voluntary group that supports local play. For the pastseven years our Play Forum has worked closely with Gedling'sout-of-school co-ordinator to run regular free training or networkmeetings for local out-of-school groups.

We now welcome workers from other settings, including nurseries andlocal childminders. Participants are from private providers, voluntarygroups or the statutory sector. Between 20 and 75 people usually attendthe events, which are held three to five times a year. Funding is fromvarious sources, including Nottinghamshire County Council Play Training,Nottinghamshire EYDCP, Local Area Initiative Fund.

The meetings give practitioners a chance to share ideas and training andto celebrate group successes. Our local MP usually attends and gives outany certificates and awards.
