Make a multi-purpose greeting card with a candle design - a suitable image for Divali, Hanukkah, Christmas and birthdays (for more information on festivals, see Festivals of light, page 17 and Resources, pages18-19).

To describe the shape and size of flat shapes

Adult:child ratio 1:4

Resources

Dark paper (blue or black), card, oblong shapes to use for printing (for example, small bricks or boxes), yellow or orange chalk, paintbrushes, paint.

Preparation

* Cut the dark paper and fold the card into varying sizes, making sure that the paper shapes (for example, small squares, large rectangles) match the cards. Presenting children with a variety of shapes encourages them to match the card and paper shapes and encourages individuality of the final outcome.
