Children are catered for in the home, in small numbers of mixed age with a single carer, as they would be if their own parent were able to stay at home. Parents have the reassurance that the home and care is checked by Ofsted and the childminder has had paediatric first aid training.
In my home, the children are cared for alongside my own children and are treated as members of the family. I became a registered childminder because I wanted to care for my own children and I appreciate that finding suitable childcare is difficult.
Nurseries are a vital part of the childcare system, but should never be viewed as the only type of provision.
