Locals rally round nursery after fire

Staff and children at a Glasgow nursery that was gutted by fire have been temporarily relocated to a nearby primary school until the facility is restored and reopened after the summer holidays. Head teacher at Woodacre Nursery, Margaret Deeney, praised the 'overwhelming' support from the local community since a suspicious blaze two weeks ago destroyed most of the nursery's play areas, toys, equipment and teaching materials.

Some of the equipment in the burnt building was retrieved and cleaned up with the help of a local cleaning firm and other local services. Nitshill Primary School will now be the nursery's temporary home.

Ms Deeney said that because the fire happened on the Sunday of a holiday week, parents had already told their children by the time they returned the following Monday. 'Several parents said their children had burst into tears at the news. They were obviously very distressed about it.
