Lone parents expected to look for work

Lone parents of children aged seven or over will be expected to look for work and those with younger children to take part in training, under reforms in the Welfare Green Paper last week.

Incapacity benefits will be scrapped by 2013 and Income Supportabolished. People on incapacity benefit will be moved to the newEmployment Support Allowance to help them return to work. Everyone whois able to work, including lone parents with children under seven, willbe moved to Jobseekers' Allowance.
