Lone parents to keep benefits

Lone parents of threeto six-year-olds will be able to keep more of their wages before losing any of their benefits, under a Government pilot scheme.

The Progression to Work Pathfinders aims to help parents undertaketraining, work experience and find jobs that fit with nursery and schoolhours. Parents will be able to keep 50 of their earnings beforelosing any benefits.

The pilot will start in South London, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire andthe Tees Valley in October.

Work and pensions secretary Yvette Cooper said, 'We are giving parentsmore support to get ready to get back to work while their children areat nursery, but in return we do expect people to take up this extraoffer of help.'
