Make a difference

This year the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children opened a widespread public debate on the physical punishment of children. I would like to thank the efforts of the many nursery workers and other professionals, as well as media supporters such as Nursery World, who have helped keep it in the spotlight. The campaign highlights the fact that children should have the same legal protection from being hit as adults and that hitting children is wrong. It also calls for providing parents and carers with information and support on alternatives. The NSPCC campaign Hitting Children Must Stop Full Stop won an award for the best not-for-profit campaign of the year at a national awards ceremony earlier this month. However, the results of the campaign are due to a massive effort by a range of organisations and individuals.

We are making a difference. This ongoing campaign is a crucial step in protecting children from harm.
