A professionals and family support centre is leading the way for children with sensory impairments. Sue Sillitoe went to visit Described as 'trail-blazing' and 'a wonderful example of collaborative working', Gwent's new support centre for visual- and multisensory-impaired children is determined to meet the diverse needs of all those who come through its doors.

Described as 'trail-blazing' and 'a wonderful example of collaborative working', Gwent's new support centre for visual- and multisensory-impaired children is determined to meet the diverse needs of all those who come through its doors.

Located in what used to be a boiler house, the officially named Multi Sensory Outreach and Impairment Family Centre, in Cwmbran, has enjoyed an ambitious makeover. It boasts a soft play area, a sensory room, a library with more than 6,000 Braille and large-print books, kitchen facilities where children can learn to cook, a computer suite, assessment rooms, meeting and training facilities and administration offices for staff.
