These distinguished authors remind us that when young children draw they are offering us a window into their own developing understanding of the world and their relationships to significant people, things and places.

Furthermore, drawing gives children a tool for telling themselves and us elaborate stories. In this book we are invited to share the drawings and stories of four children between the ages of three and seven. The research project behind the book looked at seven children and their drawings, using a historical, social and cultural approach.
