Media campaign to publicise the new Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit

A media campaign to publicise the new Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit (News, 26 September) has been launched by the Government. The campaign aims to ensure that all those who might benefit submit their claims in time to receive payments in April 2003, when the credits will come into effect. Paymaster general Dawn Primarolo said, 'Nine out of ten families with children will benefit from the new Child Tax Credit, so it is vital that everyone is aware of the changes and knows how to claim their entitlement.' The Kids' Clubs Network welcomed the campaign and its chief executive, Anne Longfield, said the new tax credit 'will provide a major source of financial support for families, especially those on lower incomes, opening up new opportunities for families struggling to juggle work and home commitments, as well as increasing the demand for good-quality childcare in the UK'. More information on making claims is on the website www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/taxcredits or call the helpline on 0800 500 222.
