British children as young as five spend more than 100 a year on fizzy drinks and sweets, and skip 90 breakfasts, according to a study reported in The Independent that found that children in the UK eat far more sweets and snacks than others in Europe. A diabetic father who suffered a seizure in a swimming pool was saved by his quick-thinking children, said the Daily Mail . Martin Limon's nine-year-old son Matthew saw his father sink to the bottom of the pool and with the help of his ten-year-old sister Sarah, hauled him to the surface, holding his head above water until a lifeguard arrived.

Wailing babies were beaten into third place by the sounds of vomiting and microphone feedback, after a year-long worldwide survey by a professor of acoustic engineering at SalfordUniversity.
