A car driver in Australia has been fined for strapping down his beer rather than his young child, BBC World News reported.

Police said the 30-can pack of beer was fastened between two adults inthe back, with the five-year-old unrestrained on the floor. ConstableWayne Burnett said, 'I haven't ever seen something like this before. Iasked the driver about the fact the child was unrestrained and the beerwas, and he said he didn't know anything about it.' Superintendent SeanParnell of Alice Springs police said the incident was a 'timelyreminder' to ensure 'all passengers are secured'.

Harry Potter 'is too boring and grown-up for young readers', children'sauthor Michael Rosen told The Times. The boy wizard tales, he said, 'arecomplex and most young children would struggle to cope with theirchallenging and often sinister themes'. Rosen said the books deservedcredit for encouraging children to read, but feared their success mightprevent them from discovering new authors.
