New research suggests that women who smoke while pregnant are putting their grandchildren as well as their children at risk. The Sunday Times said that some of the chemicals in cigarette smoke can permanently alter the DNA of those exposed to it and this can be inherited by smokers' children and grandchildren.
The Oliver Effect continued this week with the news that broadcasters in 12 countries have bought 'Jamie's School Dinners'. The Times predicted that children in Australia, Denmark, Thailand, Hong Kong and Slovenia would soon be steered on to healthier diets.
Jamie Oliver has found an unlikely ally in his crusade for healthier eating - Sesame Street's Cookie Monster. Concerned at rising rates of child obesity, the programme's producers have put the biscuit-devouring puppet on a diet, reported the Independent, and he will now tell viewers that cookies are 'occasional treats'.
