Men welcome

I was saddened to read of Michael Nolan's experiences as a male nursery nurse ('In my view', 9 August). I have had the pleasure of working alongside two male workers in my community day nursery and it has been a positive experience both for staff and children. They were employed under equal opportunities and were treated the same as all members of staff. Obviously, child protection has to be in the forefront of all our minds, but this is applied to all workers.

Sadly, both workers decided to leave us, one after six years with us to change direction in childcare and the other after seven years to change career completely because of the low pay in childcare. I wish Mr Nolan success in his career and only hope he won't put all nurseries in the same basket.
